The official groundbreaking for a new mixed-income housing development in Forest Park Southeast (FPSE) occurred today inside and outside of the Adams Park Community Center. The $27 million project is led by Rise Community Development (Rise) and Unify Grove Development. The development is sponsored by the Washington University Medical Center Redevelopment Corporation (WUMCRC), a public-private partnership between Washington University School of Medicine and BJC HealthCare. The Forest Park Southeast neighborhood is bordered by I-44 to the south, Kingshighway to the west, I-64 to the north and Vandeventer Avenue to the east. Construction of more than 150 mixed-income housing units is planned to begin later this year bordering the Washington University Medical Campus.
Rise is doing the affordable housing piece (Adams Grove) consisting of 50 townhomes and garden apartments and will be incorporating contemporary design, green building, and universal design principles. Rise has been working in the FPSE area since 1999 and is responsible for $12M in investment in the area. The project architect is Trivers Associates and the general contractor will be Altman Charter.
The ceremony was hosted by Hank Webber, Executive Vice Chancellor for Administration at Washington University in St. Louis, and Brian Phillips, Executive Director of WUMCRC.

The ceremony was held inside the community center follow by the symbolic breaking of the ground out in the garden area. This event signifies an important effort to redevelop the neighborhood while preserving its overall diversity.
