At the 2016 Rise Up Festival, a variety of musical acts, craft vendors, food vendors, and local artists will be in attendance. Rise looks forward to welcoming each and every one of these guests and their own unique contributions to the event.
The opening musical performance of the day, the World Famous Dr. Zhivegas, will kick off the event with their fast-paced dance music covers. The five passionate musicians that together make up the group include Frankie Muriel (lead vocals), JP Pennington (guitar), Paul Chickey (drums), Chubby Smith (bass), and Taynka (vocals). Together, these individuals have worked to produce their electric sound for over twenty years. Their dedication to the craft and love for performing is now as strong as ever, and the attendees of the 2016 Rise Up Festival will no doubt be captivated by the sound of Dr. Zhivegas.
To cool off during the hot summer day, attendees of the Rise Up Festival will have the opportunity to visit the Scoops and More booth to indulge in their homemade Water Ice, also known as Italian Ice. Scoops and More uses fresh fruit to make their frozen treats and offers a variety of flavors to choose from. The business is family owned and local to St. Louis, producing their product in town and to the highest possible quality. This will be Scoops and More’s second year at the Rise Up Festival, so we know how great their ice is!
For food with a little more substance, check out the Medina Mediterranean Grill booth at the festival. Medina is located on Washington Avenue, just a couple blocks down from Rise, and offers a tasty and unique variety of choices. The dishes range from Mediterranean to Greek, to Middle Eastern, to Vegetarian. There is something for everyone at Medina, and the Rise Up Festival could not be more excited to have them back again!
The ‘Artists on the Rise’ section of the festival will feature various emerging artists with a wide variety of chosen mediums. Artists First, a non-profit organization located in St. Louis, will be set up in this area to display their artwork as well as promote their mission. This organization offers the opportunity to those challenged with disabilities to foster and pursue their artistic ambitions. Respect for individuals, self-expression and growth, personal mastery, and much more are all valued by Artists First. The Rise Up Festival is pleased to have the work of the Artists First members present for the second year, we love their mission!
