At Rise, part of our mission to build stronger, more equitable St. Louis area neighborhoods is to partner with local Community Development Corporations (CDCs) to help build their capacity so they can become better equipped to tackle neighborhood revitalization projects. One of those CDCs is Spanish Lake CDC.

Spanish Lake CDC (SLCDC) was founded in 2013 by community members, with support from St. Louis County, Christian Hospital, the Spanish Lake Community Association, and the St. Louis Economic Development Partnership. The organization was formed to enhance the quality of life and create socially and economically healthy living environments in the Spanish Lake area by promoting and engaging in neighborhood improvement projects and other related activities, including the provision of decent housing that is affordable to low-and-moderate-income residents.

In 2015, Rise headed-up a recruitment and selection process for a full-time executive director.  During the transition period to hiring a permanent executive director, Rise maintained communications with all Board members; developed meeting agendas and other materials for the Board and supported the organization with community, government, and media relations; and managed SLCDC’s overall office operations. Since that time, Angela Pinex (former Community Affairs Officer with First Bank) has taken on the position of Executive Director.

On Saturday, October 14, 2017, our friends at Rebuilding Together St. Louis partnered with SLCDC and assisted 4 homeowners with much-needed home repairs. SLDCS’s neighbors received plumbing repairs, fresh coats of paint, new appliances, repaired electrical, landscaping, roof repairs, window replacement, new railing inside and out and much more.

Congratulations to SLCDC and Rebuilding Together St. Louis for lifting our communities. Well done!
